Why are the Dutch so dominant as Speed Skating ?

Why are the Dutch so dominant as Speed Skating ?

Postby Undie » February 12th, 2018, 4:40 pm

A question fans of the Winter Olympics have been asking.

Well Katie Couric NBC's Olympic commentator has answered it for everyone

"it's an important mode of transport in the city of Amsterdam. As you all know, it has lots of canals that can freeze in the winters, So, for as long as those canals have existed, the Dutch have skated on them to get from place to place, to race each other and also to have fun.”

Yes, those plucky Dutch going to work on their skates, arrr look at their little orange legs go

Nice to see the Dutch go for it on Twitter
Rush Hour in the Netherlands.

They have loads of 500m indoor rinks. You'll find groups of people (like in the picture), just going round and round.

Did I ever mention the time I had to race Elise Christie in the club championship?

I know a few Dutch people, they all owned skates from a young age and skated from village to village in the winter.

No you didn't. Was that when she was still at school with Redpig?

I'm not surprised she slipped - very icy on that track
The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly coloured, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride."

I remember skating with my elbows out until I fell, she probably tripped me.
